Automotive Professionals

Our automotive professionals at Premier Auto Parts can also help you find a reliable, trustworthy car maintenance or service business in your area that will take good care of your car. Your car is relied upon to take you everywhere; it’s part of your daily life. Keeping your car well-maintained is essential not only to your safety, but to the safety of your passengers as well. That is why taking precautionary steps with preventative maintenance can highly benefit you and your vehicle. Also, if you notice even the slightest change in the normal behavior of your car, it is always best to seek a professional auto mechanic as soon as possible. Even if the abnormal behavior seems very minor, it could lead to a much bigger and potentially more disastrous mechanical or electrical problem.

Vehicle Maintenance

Maintaining your vehicle should be done on a monthly basis, and any preventative maintenance you can accomplish can benefit you in more ways than one. For example, we all want better gas mileage, especially those of you that have long commutes to and from work and home. There are a few minor parts you can replace to extend the gas mileage of your car’s engine, also saving you money on gas in the long run. All of these parts you can buy online from Premier Auto Parts, and even do it yourself to save money taking your car to a mechanic.

Important Vehicle Information

First, and one of the most obvious, is your spark plugs. They are inexpensive and moderately simple to replace, depending on your vehicle. Spark plugs ignite the fuel/air mixture in your engine’s combustion chamber. Replacing the spark plugs with new or better quality ones will cause your engine to run cleaner and more efficiently. Second is your vehicle’s air filter. The air filter is responsible for filtering all the air coming into your engine. Therefore, a dirty or dusty air filter reduces your gas mileage, especially if your car is over 10 years old. Air filters are very easy to replace and should be done about every 30,000 miles. A higher quality or performance air filter can boost your gas mileage even further. The third important maintenance step to improve your car’s gas mileage is replacing or upgrading the oxygen sensor. Oxygen sensors monitor the exhaust flow before and after the catalytic converter, and send this data to the engine’s computer which adjusts the fuel injection level accordingly. So obviously if the oxygen sensor is faulty, then the data sent to the car’s computer is inaccurate. Replacing your vehicle’s oxygen sensor is moderately easy, and it is highly suggested you replace the sensor if your car has over 100,000 miles on it. Usually if a sensor is bad or faulty, your check engine light will come on and the appropriate code will alert you as to the problem. The Fourth important part replacement is the mass air flow sensor which measures air flow coming into the engine, sending that information to the engine’s computer. This regulates fuel injection, the ignition system, and the transmission shifting gears. When the mass air flow sensor gets dirty or dusty, the information it sends to the computer is not accurate, which greatly affects fuel economy. It is very easy to replace on your own and relatively inexpensive. Last, but certainly not least, is your tires. Other than the obvious function of providing traction and handling for your car or truck, they can also affect your gas mileage. Tires that are underinflated, out of alignment or worn out can definitely reduce fuel economy. Tires naturally lose air over time, so you should check your vehicles’ tire pressure monthly to ensure optimum handling and gas mileage, and extend the life of your tires.
